Mr. Feedback

“Whoever steps into the job would probably find Dr Tan —fondly and simply known as “Doc” to many — a hard act to follow. In his four years as the Unit’s first and only chief so far,the MP for Ayer Rajah has so established his credibility that he has come to stand for Feedback with a capital F and to personify the Unit in the eyes of the public”

Champion for the Underdogs

“He is indeed a very busy man,but he remains approachable. One of the most remarkable characteristics of his personality is his dauntless spirit of fighting for the underdogs.

His involvement with the disabled came at a time when accessibility to public places for the disabled was an issue of public attention.

While most people in public service would only pay lip-service in support of a barrier-free society,Dr Tan was prepared to put his money where his mouth is. He is an ardent believer that deeds speak louder than words.”

Are we afraid?

It is sad that many older Singaporeans still live in fear. They tell me they can support me only on the quiet because they worry about their jobs and businesses. This is not the type of Singapore we want. What is the use of high growth, imposing sky scrappers, beautiful parks and greenery, well designed condominiums and HDB flats if we can only whisper our true intentions.

It’s sad to hear this as I think the Almighty God is the only one we should be afraid of.iF you are out to hurt anyone be it physical or other wise, than you should be afraid of retribution that will befall on you.As the saying goes”The longer it takes, the harder it hits you when it comes”.And I believe strongly in this.As the lyrics of the song that goes like this”God is watching us,God is watching from a distance”.And if you are God fearing, you wont be afraid.

Hello Dr Tan.. my grandma used to live in Ama Keng. I know she supports you the same too and is very much reluctant to speak up on politics. Nevertheless,my entire family is rooting for you and you have our deepest support in this election and we are not afraid.

I’m only 22,and I will do all means to get her to be brave like we do :)

    Dear Dr. Tan,
I had made up my mind to cast the vote for you. I had read transcript of your speeches which you show moral fibre as a person. It is a real person we need in a president. Although you are from that party, and there are indications of the 1987 Marxist thing. But I still hold you in high regards in similar to Lily Neo and Amy Khor. Are we afraid? Sure,in the past,at least. With 50 years of stifling political enviroment,we had lost at least two generation of political leaders. I just wonder sometimes, will our country be better if we had a coalition government instead of a Single party deal. Right now, citizens are treated like cannon fodder to fuel the economy machine, nothing else matters. I felt nowadays, leaders only know the price for everything, but the value of nothing.

I will vote for you. I will believe in you. I will not be afraid. I am voting for the new generation future. I know if you are president, you can’t do much,as being shackle by the constitution. It is important to have choice.

Yes,I am afraid of you. You were ex-PAP member. The other candidate (ex-PAP member) will lawsuite someone. Fear or not?

‘What is the use of high growth, imposing sky scrappers, beautiful parks and greenery, well designed condominiums and HDB flats if we can only whisper our true intentions’.

Indeed, one could go on and say:what is the use of of all this finery and laudable accomplishments if our own young and able nevertheless find themselves struggling to get onto the property ladder?;what is the use of having huge reserves if our ordinary, honest, hardworking citizens struggle to make ends meet? what is the use of of such reserves if many of our elderly face a life of destitution? The president’s role,as an ELECTED president is to represent the interest of the loyal populace who have slaved long and hard and deferred immediate self-gratification to help build up such impressive reserves. Is it not time to ask;do we build up and protect reserves just for the sake of having reserves or are parts of reserves meant to be astutely deployed to laudable causes to better the living conditions of its citizens? Are we guilty of just building and accumulating reserves FOR ITS OWN SAKE rather than for the sake of Singapore and Singaporeans?

  • Inspire them (the older Singaporeans) not to live in fear then.

You’re one of them. You do not live in fear.
So should they–even if they’re not running for President!)

My main concern is that very soon they will attack you and pull you down. The whip can be so strong that you will be isolated. Years of good name will be destroyed within a few months. That’s my fear.

  • Bishan

From my observation,Bishan-toa payoh grc alot of people would vote for you.. So jiayou!!

    • Tan Cheng Bock

      Dear Bishan,

Thanks for your post. I believe the President must be the voice of the people to make sure that the two constitutional roles, guarding the reserves and vetting key civil service appointments, must be carried out without fear or favour.
